We are inspired by Barack Obama’s call for citizens to organize themselves to take action to improve their communities and their country. We are inspired by his effort to appeal to people’s hopes and dreams as opposed to their fears.

Barack’s story is an American story, a story of our generation. The son of an immigrant father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas, he has faced modern-day racism. He has overcome obstacles, with help from his community, to become well-educated and successful. While so much of our society uses faith, gender and class differences to separate us, Obama has come through his unique life experience to establish a career and a campaign that is about uniting across these rifts, and healing a scarred and divided nation.

In this moment of incredible opportunity in America, we believe this approach, of bringing people together around a common goal of getting the U.S. back on track, is the best path toward recovering our respect in the world and building strong communities that can support our families at home.
